Marrow Donor Program & Be The Match

A matching donor may be a leukemia patient’s only hope.

People suffering from leukemia or other life-threatening blood diseases often need a bone marrow/stem cell transplant to survive. Each person has their unique genetic set of tissue typing of the immune system, called human leukocyte antigens (HLA). It is an inherited characteristic, much like eye or hair color. Generally, matching HLA comes from the patient’s own ethnic group. Each year thousands of racial minorities die from leukemia and other blood diseases because of the low number of minority donor volunteers registered with Be The Match.

Signing up simply means you are making yourself available to patients who might one day need you. If you are between the ages of 18 to 44 and meet the health requirements, please register. It only takes about 5 minutes and consists of paperwork and a cheek swab. The swabs collect DNA samples to determine your HLA typing. Once you’ve been added to the Registry, it is important to keep us updated on any changes to your contact information. Please email us here, if your phone number, email or address changes so that we may get in touch with you if you are a match for someone in need.

The GenCure Marrow Donor Program, in partnership with Be The Match, hosts registration drives and special events to promote awareness about the urgent need for more potential donors. Click "Register Today" to sign up for Be The Match online. For more information, please email us here

GenCure is an authorized donor center of the Be The Match Program. The program coordinates donor registration, marrow donation and search activities providing donor suitability, management, collection and processing of peripheral blood stem cells from adult donors.
